A space to connect, rest and laugh

A space to connect, rest and laugh

A new lounge for students in religious organizations opened last semester in Liberty Hall, the home of Campus Ministry. Campus Ministers named the lounge the Saragossa Room, after the place where Marianist founder William Joseph Chaminade was exiled for three years and spent time forming his vision to rebuild the Catholic Church.

With the help and permission of Campus Ministry, students have contributed to the Saragossa Room with books, blankets, decorations and even an M&M jar to make the lounge feel more like home. A  whiteboard hanging on the wall is covered with drawings, Scripture passages and a space to share song recommendations. The table is often crowded with students sharing stories, eating lunch and doing homework, as well as posters for ongoing events within Campus Ministry and other religious student organizations.

Crystal Sullivan, executive director of Campus Ministry, said, "We hope the Saragossa Room is a space to connect, to rest, to laugh, to go deeper in conversation and more."
