Flyer Football

Welcome Stadium was filled with more than 2,000 fans Saturday afternoon to watch the University of Dayton Flyers take on the Valparaiso University Beacons. An entertaining game from start to finish ended with a hard-earned Flyer win, 31-24. Fans were kept engaged during halftime by a performance from the Pride of Dayton Marching Band and some of its alumni. Halftime also included the presentation of the George Koenig Scholarship to Jacob Slomko of the marching band.

Another scholarship was also acknowledged during the weekend: the Matt Dahlinghaus Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was named to honor a Flyer football player who passed away from injuries sustained during a game in 1972. Dahlinghaus was an integral member of the team, providing his teammates with laughter and inspiration, and his spirit lives on even decades after his time at UD. His friends and family participated in a weekend of activities, culminating in the game.
