Each fall, dozens of students from first-years to seniors take to the Recplex pool in swim trunks and swimsuits to battle against each other to earn the coveted title of Battleship champions.
Each team is armed with a canoe, kickboards, buckets and water guns — doing anything they can to sink other teams’ canoes. Lifeguards (safety first, right?) also join in on the fun by spraying water on the teams with water guns or buckets to add to the competition. The last canoe floating is crowned champion. And these teams mean business. Buckets of water are flying and kickboards are knocking people into the water left and right.
But in the end, only one team was left floating — a team of sophomores aptly named Rock the Boat.
“This year's tournament was a huge success,” said Anthony Carson, assistant director of intramural sports. “We were able to engage around 200 students in a non-traditional intramural competition that included free food, music, raffle prizes and ultimately, a lot of fun.”
