Water way

Water way

Students use art to share what they love most about the greatest natural resource our region has to offer.

To navigate from campus to the Great Miami River, just follow the murals. The 2021 cohort of River Stewards created a wayfinding art project to raise awareness and deepen public connection to the river. The path starts on Frericks Way — where a sidewalk mural around a storm drain depicts the neighborhood — and moves west, following the street drainage system. To complete the project, students collaborated with the city of Dayton and Katie Norris ’10, an environmental scientist for the city and a River Stewards alumna. They also are creating an online map featuring the 12 murals with educational information at each stop. “Through this process, I have learned what it really means to be a steward of watersheds,” said 2021 premedicine graduate Jon Colwell from Dublin, Ohio.
