Baseball

The Flyers’ season ended on a rainy night in Richmond, Virginia, as they fell, 7-6, to VCU in the A-10 championship game. The Flyers (24-27 overall) finished second in the conference for the second straight year. The team’s 12-4 A-10 record was its highest league winning percentage since 2009. Juniors Marcos Pujols and Benjamin Blackwell were named First Team All-Conference.

 


Basketball

MEN’S BASKETBALL — The Flyers will be joined Nov. 25-28 in Orlando, Florida, at the ESPN Events Invitational by Alabama, Belmont, Drake, Iona, Kansas, Miami (Florida) and North Texas.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL — Olivia Applewhite ’13 has been named assistant coach after spending three seasons playing in Europe and five seasons at rival Saint Louis, most recently as assistant coach. At UD she was team captain and A-10 Sixth Woman of the Year her senior year.

 


Golf

MEN’S GOLF — Freshman Henry May won the A-10 championship, qualifying him for NCAA postseason play. In the final A-10 round, he birdied 17 and eagled 18. Sophomore Kyle Schmidt was named A-10 Rookie of the Year.

WOMEN’S GOLF — Freshman Sarah O’Connor was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year after finishing second in the MAAC Championship. The Flyers as a team finished third.

 


Men’s soccer

Senior Jonas Fjeldberg was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Year and junior Kingsford Adjei A-10 Midfielder of the Year. They each earned the same award the previous year. Coach Dennis Currier was named A-10 Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. The Flyers won the league’s regular- season championship.

 


Men’s tennis

Sophomore Connor Bruce was named A-10 Outstanding Rookie as well as making the First Team All-Conference.

 

 

 


Rowing

Senior Maggie Cahill was named First Team A-10.

 

 

 


Track and field

Sophomore Casey Bogues finished 11th in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a javelin throw of a personal best and school record 53.39m, more than two meters longer than the A-10 and school record she set at the conference championship. At the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials, Bogues finished 23rd, and volunteer assistant coach Chantae McMilan finished eighth.

 


Volleyball

The Flyers won the school’s 14th A-10 volleyball title, defeating VCU in the finals. In the NCAA tournament, the team defeated Towson before falling to sixth-seeded Washington. Junior Jamie Peterson, A-10 Player of the Year, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Third Team.
