As the band started to play music by The Beatles, and the guests filed into tables, friends who had not seen each other since Friday evening eagerly greeted each other again as they got in line to order food. I was fortunate enough to meet two newly inducted Golden Flyers, Lynda Scalise Federici ‘69 and George Federici ‘69.
The two met at while they were studying at UD, Lynda in the School of Business Administration and George in pre-dentistry. They said, though they wouldn’t call it “love at first sight,” they were inseparable after meeting for the first time at Timothy’s, down the street from campus. During their senior year, they made their solemn engagement in the University of Dayton’s Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, and they married shortly after their graduation in 1969.
George and Lynda decided to come to the Brews, Bites and Bands celebration after they received an information packet that detailed all the happenings of Reunion Weekend. George mentioned that the celebration sounded a lot like a porch party, which he said are always fun.
“We don’t want to miss a thing!” Lynda said.
They told me that the thing they were most looking forward to doing at Brews, Bites and Bands was to meet new people, as well as celebrate with them. They also said that they were excited to catch up with their friends again.
“[Our favorite thing this weekend] probably has been seeing all of our friends again — seeing all of our troop. We’ve stayed pretty close. We always have,” George said.
And, to help conclude their Reunion Weekend, Lynda and George said they planned to attend the vow renewal ceremony and Mass at the chapel.
Lynda and George said that UD has become like their extended family.
“I feel like we’re all family! We’ve all come back together,” Lynda said. “You just feel like it is home away from home as soon as you arrive.”
