Scholars' Commons

With the 2019 renovation of Roesch Library came a rare opportunity to create a new kind of space for faculty — a place away from their offices for collegial interaction, study, collaboration, professional development, and private reading and writing. The Scholars’ Commons — a spacious, well-appointed, semi-private room on the second floor of Roesch Library — provides just such a space.

Card-accessible to faculty and doctoral students only, the Scholars’ Commons, Room 245, is designed for informal and impromptu use; however, it can be reserved and configured upon request for small scholarly or professional assemblies. It contains six to seven lounge-type seating clusters; variable lighting; partitions; large computer monitors with laptop connections; movable whiteboards; and decorative floor-to-ceiling bulletin boards. Refreshments are available from the Blend (ground floor) and the Refuel Zone vending machines (first floor). Visitors are also welcome to bring their own refreshments.

The Scholars’ Commons is open during regular library hours. Reservations are not necessary, though hours may be restricted on occasion for planned events. Outside of scheduled events, the noise level in the Scholars' Commons should remain considerate to others who may be writing or reading. Groups may reserve team rooms for more active and vocal studying and collaboration.

For information, contact the Scholars’ Commons coordinator. To discuss reserving the space for an event, call the dean’s office at 937-229-4094.
