Reserving the Dialogue Zone

Located in Roesch Library Room 107, the Dialogue Zone Meeting Space is available for individuals, groups, departments, and organizations on campus to reserve for their own dialogue-related programs.

Dialogue as a Requirement

Programs that take place in the Dialogue Zone must incorporate some element of dialogue.  As we define it, dialogue is a communicative process in which people with different perspectives seek understanding.  Participants need not agree with each other, nor must they adopt each other’s views.  Mutual understanding is their primary goal.

If you are interested in reserving RL 107, then you must submit a request that provides information about your program.  In your request, you must explain how your program will include dialogue.

Information We Need

When you submit your request, you will be asked what assistance you need from us.  We can provide any or all of the following:

  • Handling registration for the event
  • Assistance with promoting the event
  • Creation of a flyer to be used in promoting the event
  • Use of Dialogue Zone facilitators
  • Options for arrangement of the physical space
  • Supplies (e.g., dry erase markers, erasers, poster-size paper)

We also will ask you for some logistical information about your event, such as the number of participants you anticipate, your preferred time and date for the event, and a title and brief description of what will occur.

With your request, you will be asked to confirm that you will abide by the community norms of the Dialogue Zone and have a conversation about these norms with your participants.  This is an important part of helping participants to understand and engage each other in dialogue.

Scheduling Your Event

Please submit your request at least two full weeks prior to your event.  If you are asking for assistance with marketing, registration, and/or facilitation, we ask that you submit the form one full month in advance.

After you submit the form, we will notify you about whether your request has been approved.  If your request is approved, then we will assign you a liaison who will work with you as you prepare for your event.

If you have any questions, email us at dialoguezone@udayton.edu.
