Make Plans to Attend Alumni Weekend
It’s not too early to begin making plans to get together with classmates during this year’s Alumni Weekend, slated for Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19. Alumni Weekend will include a CLE program, community service opportunities, the alumni reception and dinner and a new event on Friday night.
Volunteers from all classes are still needed to assist in planning Alumni Weekend. Volunteers are also needed to serve on Reunion Year Committees for the Classes of 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2007.
This year’s Alumni Weekend festivities kick of with a new event: an informal reception with Dean Paul E. McGreal on Friday evening, May 18, at America’s Packard Museum in downtown Dayton. The reception will be catered by Milano’s.
The weekend activities continue on May 19 with a CLE in Keller Hall. The program will include three presentations:
- “Ethics” by Hon. Walter H. Rice
- “Professionalism” by Dean McGreal
- “Substance Abuse” by assistant professor Sam Han
Also on the morning of May 19, alumni and their families will have an opportunity to help others by participating in a community service project at Daybreak, a downtown Dayton shelter for runaway youth.
The weekend concludes that evening with special class receptions and an Alumni Dinner, in Keller Hall. Special receptions will be held for the Classes of 1977, ’82, ’87, ’92, ’97, ’02 and ’07. An all-class reception, for people not in those classes, will also be held.
Musical entertainment will be provided during the dinner. The Distinguished Alumni Award, Honorable Walter H. Rice Honorary Alumni Award, Francis J. Conte Special Service Award and Steven E. Yuhas Special Service Award will also be presented.
Free childcare is provided during the receptions and dinner.
During the class receptions and dinner, the Alumni Association will host the Public Interest Law Auction, which raises funds for living expenses for support students performing pro bono work. Those who participate in the auction not only help law students, but also those in need of legal assistance. Students receiving stipends from these funds have worked for such organizations as Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Ohio Legal Rights Service and Ohio Public Defender’s Office.
Those who want to visit and reminisce more with their classmates may stay for an after-dinner gathering featuring music and refreshments on the Keller Hall East Lawn.
