Dean Paul McGreal met with Cincinnati-area alumni during the School of Law’s annual Cincinnati reception on September 1. Eric D. Miller ’77 was named the executive director of the Guam Public Defender Service Corporation. He assumed his new position in August. Previously, he served as associate director for legal aid of East Tennessee; executive director of legal services of Upper East Tennessee; and deputy director and staff attorney for the Guam Public Defender Service Corporation.
Carol Glaser-Atkins ’81 has been reappointed as chair of the Health Care Law Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association. She is a privacy compliance manager for Omnicare, a provider of pharmaceutical care for seniors in Cincinnati and also owns the Springboro law firm, Carol J. Glaser, LLC, where she concentrates in the areas of estate planning, probate and elder law. She has also served as an adjunct professor in business law at the University of Dayton. In addition to her J.D., Carol received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Dayton.
Judge Katherine B. Emery ’81 was inducted into the Canon-McMillan School District Hall of Fame in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, where she went to high school. She has served on the Washington County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania since 1996. In addition to her J.D., Judge Emery received her MBA from the University of Dayton and an International Economics Certification from the University of Cologne, Germany.
She was a member of the Canon-McMillan Board of Education 1983 to 1993 and served on the Canon-McMillan Long-Range Planning Committee and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association Board of Directors. She previously served as Washington County solicitor and personnel director, worked for the Allegheny County Juvenile Court and had a part-time private law practice.
David H. Lefton ’87 has been reappointed the chair of the Solo Small Firm and General Practice Section of the Ohio State Bar Association. Currently a partner in the Cincinnati-based firm of Barron Peck Bennie & Schlemmer, David focuses in the areas of estate planning, probate, corporate law and real estate. He has served as an adjunct professor for the College of Mount St. Joseph, where he has taught advanced legal research. He has also served as an admissions counselor for the University of Dayton School of Law.
Jonathan Wight ’94 has joined Barnes & Thornburg as of counsel in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Previously a solo practitioner, Jonathan is a member of the entertainment and music practice group.
Ann (DeVoe) Loreaux ’97, her husband and their four dogs have moved to Lebanon, Ohio, where they have purchased a historic bed and breakfast. Since they are using the home as their personal residence (and not a B&B), they have plenty of room for visiting friends and family. They would love to hear from friends, who can contact Ann by email.
Mark W. Evans ’09 opened The Law Office of Mark W. Evans, Ltd., a general practice located in downtown Cincinnati. Previously, Mark clerked for two years for Judge William H. Harsha in Ohio’s Fourth District Court of Appeals.
Clint Dunaway ’10 is featured in an article in the Student Lawyer examining law student blogs, “To Blog on Not: That is the Question.” Clint discussed his experience writing a blog, Mormon Lawyers, which he launched as a student at UDSL. Clint currently operates the Dunaway Law Group, PLLC, in Mesa, Arizona.
Kenneth Finley ’10 is featured in an Ohio Lawyer magazine article, "Lawyer to Lawyer," for his participation in the Ohio Supreme Court’s mentoring program. Kenneth is an attorney at the Law Office of Anthony W. Greco in Columbus, Ohio.
Jessica A. Hill ’10 has joined Graydon Head as an attorney in the firm’s Butler/Warren, Ohio, office as part of the litigation department. Jessica previously worked at the firm as a summer extern and contract intern.
Lindsey C. Swanson ’10 has joined the Fort Wayne, Indiana, law firm of Haller & Colvin, P.C., as an associate attorney. Previously, she clerked for the Honorable Nancy Eshcoff Boyer and the Honorable David J. Avery of the Allen County, Indiana, Superior Court, Civil Division.
Andrew Arnett ’11 received honorable mention in the annual Paul Faherty Tax Law Writing Competition, sponsored by the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, for his essay “If Only You Asked Yesterday: A Criticism of the IRS’ Bright Line Time Limit on Seeking §6015(f) Equitable Relief from Joint & Several Tax Liability.” It examined the IRS regulation that imposes a two-year limit on the availability of equitable relief from joint and several tax liability. While in law school, Andrew worked at the law firm Taft, Stettinius and Hollister, and was a law clerk at the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. In addition to his J.D., Andrew received his bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and entrepreneurship from the University of Dayton.
