Register Now for Alumni Weekend

The University of Dayton School of Law is now accepting reservations for our 2011 Alumni Weekend, slated for Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14. The weekend will include the Alumni Awards Luncheon, community service opportunities and the Alumni Reception and Dinner.

All Dayton Law graduates are invited to Alumni Weekend, regardless of the year you graduated. Alumni Weekend is a great opportunity to reconnect with classmates, visit with former law professors, network with lawyers and judges and have a fun evening out.

Events on Friday, May 13

This year's Alumni Weekend festivities kick off with the annual Alumni Awards Luncheon on May 13 at the Schuster Center in Dayton, when the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Honorable Walter H. Rice Honorary Alumni Award will be presented. Judge Rice and Dean Lisa Kloppenberg will be on hand to present the Honorary Alumni Award to Helenka Marculewicz, the executive director of the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project.

Alumni are invited to participate in a special fundraiser, Get Behind the Bar, coordinated by the Dayton Bar Association's Young Lawyers' Division. The casual happy hour take place from 6-9 p.m. on May 13 at Brixx Ice Company, 500 East First Street in downtown Dayton.

The event is a fundraiser for 5 for the Kids, an annual 5K run and fitness walk for CARE House, a Dayton shelter for abused and neglected children.

Events on Saturday, May 14

This year's community service project, scheduled for Saturday morning, May 14, will take place at a location new to the annual alumni reunion, Daybreak, a shelter for homeless and runaway youth.

This CLE program, schedule to begin May 14 at 8:30 a.m., includes three presentations by Dayton Law Professors:

  • Professor James Durham: "Can I Do That There? The Pitfalls of Multijurisdictional Practice of Law"
  • Professor Rebecca Cochran: "Law Students, Lawyers and Substance Abuse in the Legal Profession"
  • Professor Sam Han: "Are the Offspring of Harvard Mice the Product of Unprotected Sex?"

Three hours of CLE credit will be offered.

The weekend concludes the evening of May 14 with special class receptions and an Alumni Dinner in Keller Hall. Receptions will be held for the Classes of 1981, '86, '91, '96, 2001 and '06. An all-class reception, for alumni not in those classes, will also be held. Free childcare is provided during the receptions and dinner.

The dinner will also provide alumni an opportunity to meet our incoming dean, Paul McGreal

During the class receptions and dinner, we will host the Public Interest Law Auction, which raises funds to support students performing pro bono work. Those who participate in the auction not only help our students, but also those desperately in need of legal assistance. Students receiving stipends from these funds have worked for such organizations as Legal Aid of Western Ohio, the NAACP and the Ohio Public Defender's Office.
