Externship Fair Offers Chance to Interview Students
Lawyers and judges interested in hosting a Dayton Law student for an unpaid externship are encouraged to attend the School of Law"s 2011 Externship Fair on Thursday, February 3, from 11:30 to 2 p.m., in Keller Hall. The fair provides an opportunity for lawyers and judges to recruit and interview eligible students for unpaid externships in the 2011-2012 academic year, including the summer 2011, fall 2011, and spring 2012 semesters.
Because all externship students are required to secure their own externship placements, the annual Externship Fair is a primary means for employers to meet with students to explore possible externship relationships. Participants are encouraged to share with the students brochures or other literature about their operations.
Externship faculty member Denise Platfoot Lacey said that Dayton Law considers attorneys and judges who work with students in externships to be our partners in the students" education.
"One of the aspirations of those in the legal profession is to help educate future lawyers, and working with a student-extern is one way to fulfill that important responsibility," Platfoot Lacey said. "Further, externships provide students with the real-world practical training that they will need when they enter the workforce."
The Externship Fair"s events kick off with an optional meet and mingle preview luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to attend this complimentary luncheon to meet with potential student-externs in a relaxed social setting prior to the Externship Fair. There is no charge for the lunch and space is limited, so participants should register early.
The Externship Fair runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
