Scholarships Provide Extra Motivation for Talented Students

Last month, UDSL students had an opportunity to meet and thank benefactors who make endowed scholarships possible at the School¿s annual Scholarship Luncheon. Financial aid is an important factor in attracting talented students to campus, and endowed scholarships open doors for students who otherwise might not have the opportunity to study the law.

Several students told the benefactors at the lunch that they are inspired by the benefactors' commitment to UDSL and its students. "It really is a motivator to come to law school, knowing there are people who are committed to UD and our success,' said Lauren Riesinger, a 2L from Tipp City, Ohio.

Adam Petty, a 2L from East Brunswick, New Jersey, said the financial assistance "empowers me to go to school, to go to class . . . because other people are invested in us."

"If it wasn't for you, a lot of us might now have gone to law school or attended UD," Carmen Rodriguez, a 3L from Kearny, New Jersey, said.

Charles Rittenhouse, a 2L from Urbana, Ohio, said the scholarships are an "acknowledgement of our accomplishments, our achievements and our potential for greatness," as well as a "challenge to give back when we launch our legal careers, to become benefactors in turn." The scholarships also allow students to better focus on their studies. "Thanks for the benefactors represented here today, all of us recipients can continue to pursue our degrees with greater focus and endure under a lightened burden," he said.
