Flyer Legal Promise Program

The new Flyer Legal Promise Program, inaugurated in partnership with the prestigious law firms of Thompson Hine and Taft, holds out the promise of changing the way underrepresented and underserved students are recruited into law schools and the legal profession.

Rather than wait for diverse talent to apply to law school and then later to elite law firms, the Flyer Legal Promise Program, proactively seeks out, recruits, and invests in academically talented undergraduates with capacity to excel in the legal profession.

Together with our partner firms, this year we will recruit our first program beneficiaries: one Taft Scholar and one Thompson Hine Scholar. Each student will receive a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Dayton School of Law, $15,000 a year in paid living expenses, extensive mentoring from their firm, summer clerkships at their firm, and a job as a new associate with their firm following Law School graduation.

The program will recruit from and build upon the University of Dayton's Flyer Promise program, which started in 2017 and provides funding and mentoring assistance to underrepresented and underserved students coming from UD partner high schools.

Become a Partner Firm

Thompson Hine and Taft are our founding partners, however, we are looking to award two named law firm scholars each year, and our search for our future partners is underway. If your firm is interested in being an early participant in this innovative new pipeline for bringing underrepresented and underserved students into the legal profession, please contact Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Julie Zink.
