American & Transnational Law Programs

Our graduate degree programs in American & Transnational Law, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a Master in the Study of Law (M.S.L.), focus on the American legal system and laws that transcend national boundaries. Optional certificates in applied business, criminal, cyber, and intellectual property law and government contracting and procurement* and United States legal practice** are available to students interested in pursuing an additional specialization. Starting in January 2019, students may complete their LL.M. degree in American and Transnational Law with the United States Legal Practice Certificate entirely online.**

*The Government Contracting and Procurement Certificate is only available to students obtaining an M.S.L.

**The online LL.M. and U.S. Legal Practice Certificate are pending approvals by the University and state of Ohio, which are expected in September 2018. The LL.M. program already has the acquiescence of the American Bar Association. Classes are scheduled to start in January 2019. The U.S. Legal Practice Certificate is only available to students obtaining an LL.M.

Degrees offered to both lawyers and non-lawyers

Our graduate degrees and certificates are offered to both lawyers and non-lawyers from the United States and abroad.

Students with a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved U.S. law school may earn an LL.M. degree by completing 24 credits of course work, often in less than nine months of study.

LL.M. degrees are available for international students who have already earned a first degree in law from a foreign university upon the completion of 30 credits of course work.

U.S. and international students who do not have a law degree may earn a Master's Degree in the Study of Law, an M.S.L. degree, by completing 30 credits of course work on a full-time or part-time basis.
