Becoming a Dean's Fellow

The Role of a Dean’s Fellow

Dean’s Fellows are upper-level students who have demonstrated the highest potential for leadership, academic achievement and a diversity of life experiences. Dean's Fellows work with the Office of Student Affairs on strategic initiatives, including:

  • Mentoring incoming students by facilitating one Learning Community during first-year Orientation and throughout the first year of law school;
  • Attending on-campus and off-campus activities or events exclusively for Dean’s Fellows; and
  • Participating in community, career and leadership development activities.

Dean's Fellows are selected through a competitive application process. Each class of Dean's Fellows is selected for their motivation, enthusiasm and academic performance, and for their commitment to the University of Dayton School of Law. Dean's Fellows appointments are typically for one year, with the opportunity to apply for a second appointment.

Requirements

To become a Dean's Fellow, the requirements are:

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative law school GPA
  • Nomination by a law school faculty member
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Enthusiastic about Dayton Law and working with incoming law students
  • Teaching or peer mentoring experience (preferred)
