Kesha Brooks
I believe the ability to be successful in law school is directly related to having a strong support system of people who can provide guidance, advice and relatable experiences. As a Dean’s Fellow, this is what I will offer to new students. Moreover, I want to help students survive and be successful in their first year of law school. My first year of law school was challenging, but luckily I had peers, professors, and faculty members who were supportive. I am very excited about the opportunity to provide that same level of support, encouragement, assistance, and a listening ear to new students.
Michael Sivore
My law school experiences combined with the uniqueness of the two-year program of which I am a part of, helped me realize the inherent value students play in an active learning community. The School of Law’s community contributed immensely to my growth as a law student and I am forever grateful to the many individuals who helped guide me through this last year. Many have said that law school is a calling. I totally agree for I entered law school as a calling to help others. I see the Dean’s Fellow Program as one of the ways I can serve others. I am honored to be in the position to use the skills and experiences I acquired both prior and during law school to assist those individuals entering law school.
Steven Strain
I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to lead great individuals while in service to my country. I am equally grateful for the chance to put my experience, in mentoring and guidance, to work for the incoming students at the University of Dayton School of Law. While the day-to-day stress, assignments, and deadlines involved in law school are of a completely different nature from those found in the military, both environments require the ability to stay calm and manage the task at hand in order to be successful. Guiding someone through a novel experience like the first year of law school is an opportunity to reach backwards and extend a hand to someone who is only one or two years behind in the same process. It is an opportunity to assist others, and that is always a worthwhile experience.
