Types of Programs

Students have a range of program types from which to choose for their experience abroad. Program types vary in terms of length and type of activities. Below is a list of the program types; specific programs can be found on our webpage

Faculty-Led Programs - Short-term programs abroad that entail traveling with a group of UD students and faculty for one to five weeks most often in January, May, June or July.  Students take UD courses for UD credit.

Exchange Programs - Long term programs abroad that entail enrolling in a partner university abroad for a semester or year and taking the equivalent of a full course load.  Students take host university courses for transfer credit. Exchange partner universities are listed below.

Cultural Immersion Programs - Short-term programs abroad that entail traveling with a group of UD students for one week in the winter or four to eight weeks in the summer.  Students typically do not take courses but experience different aspects of their host society and guided reflection.

Technical Immersion Programs - Short-term programs abroad that foster applied learning in a host country setting related to specific areas of study or expertise by the students for one or up to ten weeks.  Students typically do not take courses while abroad.

Semester Abroad and Intercultural Leadership (SAIL) Program - An innovative year-long program that entails a fall semester abroad at one of three study sites in China, Ireland or Spain followed by participation in a semester intercultural leadership program that includes special housing during the spring semester.

China Institute - A UD campus located in the ultramodern Suzhou Industrial Park just 75 miles from Shanghai where students can attend for short or long term programs with opportunities for study, service-learning, cultural immersion, experiential learning and research.

Internship Programs - Short and Long term work programs abroad available on select programs and destinations.  Earning academic credit and pay vary per program.

Marianist Exchange Programs - Long term domestic programs that entail enrolling in a U.S. Marianist university in Hawaii or Texas for a semester or year and taking the equivalent of a full course load.  Students take host university courses for transfer credit. Exchange partner universities are listed below.

Third Party Provider Programs - Short and Long term programs abroad with an external organization in any discipline in any part of the world.  Students take host university/provider courses for transfer credit.
