This program combines in-person training with digital, online modules, utilizing an array of techniques to assist you in your goals of furthering your ELT abilities.


The certificate training allows you to fully engage with the material through 160 hours of instruction, class engagement, and practicum.


This program provides you with the ability to begin in either August or January and access the materials at times that work for you and through your preferred means, giving you the flexibility you need.

You will directly connect with a community of English language educators, like yourself, while also having the support of the faculty from one of the US’s top-tier research universities.

Community is at the core of everything we do at UD. Each individual has the support of the entire institution and the University facilitates relationships between individuals and across borders. By joining the program, you automatically become a valued member of our community.

  • An average of 15 participants in each cohort
  • Get to know your cohort during the in-person workshop

Programs begin twice a year, in January and in August, and cinclude after six months. The 160-hour program combines a blended observation format with a series of in-person and online course modules. It builds on teachers’ education and classroom experience through reflective practice to develop teaching excellence.

  • Module 1: Foundations of Teaching (Intensive, in-person workshop)
  • Module 2: English Language Awareness (Online)
  • Module 3: Principles of Language Learning & Teaching (Online)
  • Module 4: The EFL Classroom (Online)
  • Module 5: Evaluation & Assessment (Online)
  • Spans over the course of all five modules
  • Eight hours of practice teaching
  • Four hours of observation of a master teacher*
*PLEASE NOTE: Participants must find their own placements if not currently teaching in a classroom.

How to Apply

Program Requirements
  • Have access to:
    • A computer
    • Internet
    • Webcam or other recording device
  • Be a practicing teacher* with either:
    • 2 years of university
    • High school diploma + 4 years of teaching experience
    • High school diploma + 2 years of teaching experience + prior TESOL teacher training
Language requirements
  • Level CEFR B1 or higher evidenced by one of the following:
    • TOEFL of 72 (iBT) 54 (ITP)
    • Cambridge FCE, CAE, or CPE
    • IELTS band 5 or higher
    • CENNI 14 and over
    • In-house test to be administered by UDP.
  • Test must have been administered within the last year prior to admission.

*PLEASE NOTE: exceptions made on a case-by-case basis.
