Transportation and Shopping

As a new international student at the University of Dayton, we understand that some of your most urgent needs are basic ones. That’s why we’ve compiled this list for you. You will notice in some cases we list which options are most popular among students. These findings are based on surveys and are meant to be informative, and should not be interpreted as official endorsements.

free airport transportation

The Center for International Programs (CIP) provides free transportation for new students from the Dayton International Airport to campus before the start of each term, upon request. Reservations are required.

  • Visit the Important dates page to learn when we offer free transportation each term.
  • Submit your request at least 7 days before your flight arrives.
  • When we receive your request, a staff member will contact you directly to confirm your flight details and answer any questions you have about travelling to Dayton.
  • If your request is approved, a driver will be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive.

Request Airport Pickup

If you will arrive outside of our service times, you are responsible for arranging your own transportation.

Other transportation options

Dayton Express Cab is the exclusive taxi company serving the Dayton International Airport. The trip from the airport to the University of Dayton takes approximately 20 minutes. Every taxi carries a tariff sheet displaying the current metered charges. Payment in cash or credit card (must show passport) is acceptable. You are expected to tip your driver 10-20% (you should tip 20% if they helped you load and unload your luggage).

When you arrive

Due to ongoing concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Center for International Programs is offering free transportation for new international students from the university campus to local shopping centers on an individual basis. We can also provide transportation to local banks, cell phone providers, and other important practical needs.

Check your email for messages from the International Student & Scholar Services office with details on how to request transportation for shopping or other basic needs.

Residence halls, apartments, and houses owned by the University are already furnished. Visit Housing and Residence Life's Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

If you need additional furnishing or are living off campus, you might find it more convenient to rent furniture rather than buying it. If this option interests you, consider CORT, a furniture rental company that specializes in helping international students. Visit CORT's website to learn more.
