Commemorating the April 27, 2014 Canonization of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II
April 27, 2014 marks the canonization of John XXIII (1881-1963) and John Paul II (1920-2005). The stamps displayed here commemorate some events of their life and pontificate. It is our way of honoring two saints of our time.

On April 2, 1959, the Vatican issued this stamp some months after the election of John XXIII, on October 28,1958.

On October 11, 1966, the Vatican issued a stamp to commemorate the closing of the Council of Vatican II, opened by John XXIII on October 11, 1962.

On November 25, 1981, Italy wanted to commemorate the centenary of the birth of John XXIII by issuing this stamp.
