Commencement Ceremony

Commencement Ceremonies

Completing your UD degree is an important achievement, especially this year, when unprecedented circumstances both on and off campus created challenges for you to overcome in reaching your academic goals. We are happy to announce plans for in-person, on-campus graduation ceremonies May 7-9 — designed to allow us to celebrate your achievements with invited guests in the Flyer spirit and tradition, while aligned with Ohio’s pandemic safety guidelines. The plans, which are being finalized, will allow you to come together with peers from your college or school, along with four of your guests, at UD Arena. As the University does our very best to ensure that the commencement ceremonies appropriately mark and honor this very special milestone in your life, please know plans are subject to change based on the state of the pandemic on the campus or in the community at the time of the event. Please check back often for more details and instructions as they become available. Questions may be directed to

Safety Protocols

In order to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that all attending the commencement ceremony are able to do so in a safe manner, we have implemented many new safety protocols. Thank you in advance for your attention and cooperation! Please note:

  • Graduates and attendees are required to wear their mask completely over their nose and mouth throughout their time in UD Arena.
  • Graduates and attendees are asked to not gather in the concourse and sit only in their assigned seating pods. Attendees are not permitted to move throughout the seating bowl throughout the ceremony to take pictures.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the procession will be led out of UD Arena. In order to provide ample time to clean and sanitize the Arena for the next ceremony, we ask you to please meet your guests outside of UD Arena. You will not be permitted to re-enter the building after the ceremony for photos.

Please keep an eye on your email inbox. A comprehensive event guide with more information for the day of the ceremony including parking information, additional safety protocols, and traffic advisories will be sent to all commencement ticket holders by the UD Arena Ticket Office at least 24 hours prior to the ceremony.

It's time for your next chapter to begin.

The University of Dayton regards its Commencement Exercises as among the most important ceremonial occasions of the academic year. These exercises are filled with symbols and traditions designed to remind us all of the thousands of years that universities have existed and their noble purposes.

Each Commencement marks another beginning, and we are excited to have you join more than 100,000 alumni worldwide who are proud to call themselves Flyers. Let us rejoice together.
