Summer Undergraduate Research Experience

Student applications are now OPEN. Application deadline is February 19, 2021.


The program is open to those who will be students during the summer of 2021. Additionally:

  • Internal candidates must have completed their first year at UD or the Sinclair Academy.

Applicants must agree to the following:

  • Participate in all 2021 S.U.R.E. events and programming with fellow S.U.R.E. participants for the duration of the program.
  • Engage in research, professional development and outreach activities on a full-time (approximately 35 hours/week) basis for ten weeks at a schedule mutually agreed upon by student and faculty research mentor. Research will be approximately 28 hours per week.
  • Generate a research poster and present this research poster at the conclusion of the program.
  • Understand that NO outside employment or summer courses or Study Abroad programs should preclude you from participating in the program — typically Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • For UD students only: Present research poster at the annual Stander Symposium held in April. 

Deadline: Student applications are due February 19. Announcements will be made by the end of February.

Get Prepared

The online application process runs from December through January, yearly. The application process should take about 7-10 minutes.

  1. Review S.U.R.E. projects for 2021 to view research areas available. Choose your top three projects.
  2. Complete the S.U.R.E. online application:

    1. General demographic information
    2. Overall GPA
    3. Describe your professional or vocational goals (up to 250 words)
    4. How do you hope the S.U.R.E. program will help you achieve your goals (up to 250 words)
    5. Describe any relevant research (up to 250 words)
