SAR Image Analysis

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a coherent radar system that operates in the microwave portion of the electromagnetic spectrum and provides high resolution remote sensing imagery of terrain reflectivity.
SAR, unlike optical systems, is sensitive to small changes on the order of the radar wavelength but independent of solar illumination and adverse weather conditions. Therefore it has been used in a wide range of applications, including environmental monitoring, target identifications, navigations, change detection, 2-D and 3-D mappings.

Typical SAR System

We intend to develop advanced algorithms to extract and enhance distinguishable features of various objects by analyzing the SAR data and employ novel classifiers to categorize various types of objects.
