Official Engineers Week 2020 T-Shirt Design Contest Rules

I have read the OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES for the University of Dayton (UD) School of Engineering, Engineers Week 2020 T-Shirt Design contest, and I agree to all of the following rules and regulations of the contest:

  1. The contest is open to all currently enrolled UD students (undergraduate and graduate) in good standing at the University of Dayton. Faculty and staff may also submit entries but are not eligible to win the grand prize. 
  2. Only ONE entry per person is permitted.
  3. All entries must be original creations of the contestant that incorporates the University's brand (i.e. colors, trademarks, or logos) into the design, has never been published, and does not contain profanity, trademarks, logos, or copyrighted works of any other person or business.
  4. The grand prize is a $250.00 gift certificate to the University Bookstore.
  5. The winning design will remain the property of the University of Dayton and will not be returned to you. UD may use the winning design at any time after the contest. The winning design may display their own design in a portfolio or personal collection but may not sell or reproduce the design for any other purpose once submitted to the contest.
  6. A panel of judges representing the School of Engineering will choose the top submissions (no more than 10). The top submissions will be put to a public vote from Monday, December 2 through Friday, December 6, 2019.
  7. The contest begins on October 30, 2019.
  8. The entries must be received online (see the following online form) or dropped off at the Office of the Dean in the School of Engineering located in Kettering Labs, room 564, by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.   
  9. We reserve the right to pick no entries as the winning entry. 
  10. The contestant who created the winning entry will receive a $250.00 University Bookstore gift certificate (eligible to UD students only). This prize is taxable income to the winner and will be processed according to the guidelines in the University's Gifts, Prizes and Awards policy. Depending upon the winner's employment status with the University of Dayton, an IRS Form 1099 for the 2019 tax year may be issued.
  11. The Office of the Dean in the School of Engineering reserves the right to terminate this contest at any time, effective on the date of issuing the termination notice, and we are under no obligation to give notice prior to the date of termination.
  12. You agree that if you submit an entry, you agree to the following “Acknowledgement and Assignment” clause, indicating your acceptance and understanding of the complete contest rules including that the winning design is the property of the University of Dayton.
  13. This contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws.

Acknowledgement and Assignment

I am submitting a contest entry with this form, and I hereby assign any and all rights in the intellectual property of this entry to the University of Dayton, School of Engineering.  I agree that the entry I submit becomes your property and that the entry will not be returned to me.

I state that this entry is my own original creation and that I did not copy anyone else's work in creating this contest entry. I agree that if I have copied anyone else’s work in preparing this entry, and if I win this contest, I will pay back the award to you and will defend, indemnify and hold harmless the University of Dayton, School of Engineering and their respective officers, directors, employees, suppliers, licensors, contractors and agents against and from any loss, debt, liability, damage, obligation, claim, demand, judgment or settlement of any nature or kind, known or unknown, liquidated or unliquidated, including without limitation, all reasonable costs and expenses incurred including all reasonable litigation costs and attorneys’ fees arising out of or relating to claims, complaint, action, proceeding or suit of a third party, that arise or relate in whole or part to the contestant’s entry.

I agree that if I win the contest, I authorize the use by you, without additional compensation, of my name and likeness or photograph for promotional purposes in any manner and in any medium (including without limitation the Internet, written or email communications, brochures, videos, slides, radio, television, film) that you deem appropriate.

I agree that if I win this contest, the $250.00 gift card to the University Bookstore is fair and adequate compensation for my contest entry, and I expect to be taxed on the gift amount.

Form of Entries

  • The entry may be drawn or printed on 8-1/2” x 11” paper or the entry may be any of the following art file formats if submitted electronically:  JPG, PDF or PNG, 2MB or smaller.
  • The design will be printed in white text only and intended for use on several different t-shirt colors (black, gray, blue, red, etc.).
  • Official UD athletics logos and marks are prohibited from use in the design.
  • Use of the University's institutional logo is permitted. The University of Dayton’s School of Engineering logo may also be used. 

Contest design online submittal form was closed after Wednesday, Nov. 20, deadline.
