WEP Events

Dinner with an Engineer is an impactful networking event. Our students have the opportunity to share a meal with local female engineering professionals and hear their stories to learn about their experiences, career paths and life as an engineer.

The Diversity in Engineering Center partners with SWE (Society of Women Engineers), NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and SASE (Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers) to host the Diversity in Engineering Meet and Greet with employers who are committed to diversity. This small-scale career fair takes place before the larger university-wide career fair and is geared toward giving our underclassmen an opportunity to practice their elevator pitch and network with recruiters.

The Women Engineering Program hosts an array of other professional development events such as resume reviews, internship/co-op panels, salary negotiation, or even how to navigate LinkedIn. The goal of these events is to set our women in engineering up for success in the job search process and sharing skills that will last a lifetime.

After the annual Up the Orgs event, where students have the opportunity to learn about the different clubs and organizations on campus, the Women Engineering Program hosts our annual Ice Cream Social. This is the very first WEP event of the year where we introduce first year students to the program and have them meet upperclassmen in the Women Engineering Program.

We love to celebrate holidays at WEP. One holiday tradition we always host an event for is Halloween. At our Everything Pumpkin Event, we supply pumpkins for our students to paint or carve. This is a great opportunity for students to decompress, socialize and meet other students outside of their grade level and major.

The Women Engineering Program hosts additional social events that change from year to year. We plan crafting events like Painting in the Plaza or a sweet treat event like our Chocolate Party. The goal of these events are to help build a closely connected community with our women in engineering and give our students opportunities to decompress and enjoy some downtime throughout the year.

Two mechanical engineering students were awarded full scholarships for their junior and senior years through the Women in Engineering Program (WEP) and the Clare Boothe Luce Program (CBL), which are dedicated to increasing the participation of women in engineering in higher education.

This year, I attended WE23, the national conference for the Society of Women Engineers, in Los Angeles, California with 22 of my UD peers. While the conference itself was immensely impactful, one of my most meaningful takeaways from traveling to Los Angeles came from sharing a meal with UD alumni.

On Sept. 1, 2023, the WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) house hosted a picnic for the WISE ILLC (Integrated Learning-Living Communities). With the second week of classes in the books, there was no better time to check in and introduce the mentors in the WISE house.
