Vision Awards

Excellence in Community

We cultivate a learning community founded in teamwork, trust, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, respect and accountability. The Community Award recognizes faculty and staff whom have made significant contributions to enhancing the climate for diversity and inclusion within the School for students, faculty and/or staff. This might include actively engaging in the recruitment of diverse faculty, staff and students; promoting awareness about issues associated with diversity and inclusion among our faculty, staff and students; taking specific measures to enhance the climate for our diverse faculty, staff and students, and serving as an advocate for diverse faculty, staff and students.

Excellence in Innovation

We foster innovation by providing real-world, hands-on education, research and service opportunities that shape dynamic, agile and inquisitive problem solvers. The Innovation Award recognizes faculty and staff whom have made significant contributions to the education of our students through innovative (unique, high-risk, interdisciplinary, etc.) teaching strategies, unique experiential learning experiences for students, record of continued, demonstrated success in the classroom, or engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Although it is recognized that this is primarily a faculty teaching award, the contribution of staff to the education of our students through policy, mentoring or opportunity creation make staff eligible for this award.

Excellence in Scholarship

We advance engineering excellence through responsible scholarship, knowledge creation and lifelong learning. The Scholarship Award recognizes faculty and staff whom have made a significant contribution in the area of scholarship. This might include traditional research, other forms of knowledge generation or demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning. Although it is recognized that this is primarily a faculty research award, the contribution of staff to knowledge generation through researching best practices or pursuing advanced education (lifelong learning) make staff eligible for this award.

Excellence in Engagement and Service

This award combines two critical but related values: Engagement and Service. Engagement: We embrace a culture of servant leadership and stewardship that instills engagement in our students, faculty, staff, university partners and external stakeholders. Service: We embrace our Marianist heritage through character building, a commitment to service for the common good and guardianship for the Earth as our common home. As such, the Engagement and Service Award recognizes faculty and staff whom have demonstrated excellence as servant leaders. It is important to note that a servant leader does not have to also be a positional leader. A servant leader is a servant first. As such, the recipient of this award demonstrates a commitment to engaging in activities that have made a significant contribution to the common good within the School of Engineering, University of Dayton, local or global community. These activities should reflect the Marianist charism: people of community, discipleship of equals and leaders in mission.
