Bomb Threats Response Guide

Bomb Threat (phone)

Try to remain calm.

If you have caller ID, record incoming phone number.

If another person is close by, signal to them to call UD Police.

Attempt to gain as much information as possible from the caller by asking:

  • Where is the bomb located? (building, floor, room number, etc.)
  • When will the bomb go off?
  • What does the bomb look like?
  • What kind of bomb is it?
  • What will make it explode?
  • Did you place the bomb?
  • Why was the bomb placed?
  • What is your name?
  • Note Caller ID if available

Immediately call UD Police and provide as much detail as possible. In addition to information stated by the caller, provide any information you can about the call itself like:

  • How old would you estimate the caller to be?
  • How would you describe the caller's voice?
  • Were there any background sounds?

Follow instructions from UD Police or other emergency response personnel. Depending on the circumstances, you may be instructed to evacuate the area.

Note any unusual items (packages, backpacks, etc.) or suspicious objects and immediately report that information to the responding authorities.
