Choose from three certificate programs
Certificate in Applied Social Science Research Methods
For students in education, the non-profit sector, and government positions who hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree and are interested in learning how to undertake scientific research, or simply better understand research they read, in the social and behavioral sciences.
Certificate in Principal Preparation
For students who have completed the Educational Leadership MSE program (or a comparable master's program). This is an in-person certificate program.
Candidates must do the following:
- Complete 12 hours of designated educator preparation coursework (principal).
- Provide evidence of two years of successful teaching experience under a standard teaching credential.
- Obtain a passing score of 220 on the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) state test.
The Principal Program coursework meets the course requirements for the State of Ohio issued Principal license. Students may earn the professional educator license with a Principal focus by holding a master's degree in Educational Leadership, or its equivalent, and completing the 12 semester hours of required coursework; providing evidence of two years of successful teaching experience under a standard (not alternative) teaching credential on the level for which the administrative license is sought; and obtaining a passing score on the OAE state testing requirement.
Note: The online Educational Leadership MSE has an optional principal licensure component.
Certificate in Superintendent Preparation
For students who have completed the Educational Leadership MSE program (or a comparable master's program) and have obtained principal licensure.
Candidates must do the following:
- Complete 12 hours of designated educator preparation coursework (superintendent).
- Provide evidence of three years of successful administrative experience under a standard administrative credential.
Administration license examination required
As of Sept. 1, 2013, the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) test series replaced the Praxis II series as the required Ohio educator licensure tests. Individuals who successfully completed a Praxis test before September 2013 may use the Praxis test results to satisfy the test requirement at the time they apply for licensure.
Note: This is an Educator Preparation Program (leading to a State of Ohio-issued license & a certificate issued by the University of Dayton).
