Personal History
Fr. Fitz has been a professed religious in the Society of Mary (Marianists) since 1965 and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1974. The Society of Mary is the religious order that founded and continues to sponsor the University of Dayton. He is presently Vice President for Mission and Rector of the University, a position he has held since July 2010. Previous to this position, Fr. Fitz served in administration and formation in the Society of Mary (1979-1997; 2002-2010), as Director of Campus Ministry and part-time instructor in Religious Studies at the University of Dayton (1998-2002), as diocesan coordinator for adult religious education in Kalamazoo, Michigan (1975-1979), and as a religion teacher in high school in Kalamazoo, Michigan (1968-1971). He enjoys gardening and cooking.
