Profile
After having worked in private practice as a civil litigator following his graduation from the University of Dayton School of Law (“UDSL”) in 2003, Michael Rhinehart currently serves the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio as the Career Law Clerk for the Hon. Michael J. Newman. Michael previously served as a law clerk for the Hon. Timothy S. Black of the Southern District of Ohio and the Hon. Roger L. Kline of the Ohio Fourth District Court of Appeals.
Michael is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dayton Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (“FBA”), where he was selected to serve as the Chapter’s Civics Liaison in 2016 and was instrumental in advancing the FBA’s National Civics Initiative locally. In 2016, Michael received the FBA Dayton Chapter Service Award and will be honored with the Chapter’s Mona Guerrier Public Service Award in 2017. Michael currently serves on the Editorial Board of the FBA’s monthly publication The Federal Lawyer, as Vice Chair of the Dayton Bar Association’s (“DBA”) Federal Practice Committee, and on the Editorial Board of the DBA’s Bar Briefs publication.
As the Career Law Clerk to the Hon. Michael J. Newman, Michael assisted in the creation of the Southern District of Ohio’s Veterans Court in Dayton, which held its first court session in October 2015. In 2016, Michael received a Certificate in Mediation Skills from the Northwestern University School of Professional Studies. Michael is married to fellow UDSL graduate Erin Rhinehart (’04) and both are members of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery’s Associate Board.
