Profile

John Fischer practices in the area of civil and criminal litigation, focusing on criminal defense, general business matters, and consumer credit litigation. Licensed in Ohio since 1997, John has extensive experience in handling complex litigation for individuals and businesses. He has litigated a wide variety of matters, including consumer debt and credit report litigation, employment issues, breach of contract matters, criminal issues, and complex class actions.

John graduated from OSU in 1997 with honors in law. While at OSU, he earned the Joseph M. Harter Memorial Trial Advocacy Award. John also served as a legal extern to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer of the Ohio Supreme Court and Judge James Cannon of the Dayton Municipal Court. During his first year of law school, John studied at the New York Law School in New York City, receiving the John M. Regan, Jr. Merit Scholarship, and ranking 14th in a class of 212.

Following graduation from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, John worked for nearly two years as a staff attorney at the Ninth District Court of Appeals in Akron, Ohio, for Judges Clair Dickinson and Beth Whitmore.

As part of Dearie, Fischer & Mathews’ commitment to the community, John is Chair of the Board of Directors of Elizabeth’s New Life Center. John also served for nearly ten years as a reader for the Ohio State Bar Examination, and he has been a legal advisor to a local high school mock trial team.

John is also an active runner. He has completed four marathons, including the 2008 Columbus Marathon, where he achieved a Boston Marathon qualifying time.
