Why UD?

I chose UD because of the welcoming feel and small class sizes. I thrive in school when being able to make connections with my peers and professors, and I knew that I would get this at UD. However, UD didn't just have small class sizes, they also had some of the kindest people and I knew that I would feel right at home here.

Why did you choose engineering? Why UD engineering?

I chose chemical engineering because of my strength in chemistry and calculus. I loved math and science, and engineering is the perfect combination of the two. I chose UD engineering because of the students and faculty. When I got a tour of the engineering building and the chemical engineering labs my senior year of high school, I got a very in depth, personalized tour, which made me feel confident that I would be cared for and that my education would be taken seriously at UD.

The UD School of Engineering is truly a collaborative and welcoming place. Students are not working against each other, but are rather seen all the time working together. Students genuinely care about other students' success. It is a common occurrence that you will see students working together on homework problems, helping each other understand the material and master the subject.

What is your favorite part of UD?

My favorite part about UD is the student neighborhood. Being able to live in a house with 5 of my best friends and live next to all of my peers is an experience that you would not find at any other college. The whole neighborhood is students, and you are right next to campus, making UD truly feel like a community.

What advice would you give high school students?

Keep an open mind. Even if you think that a college wouldn't be a good fit for you, looking into the college more, doing research and seeing the college in person may change your mind. You would be surprised how many people change their mind on their view of a college after they take a tour and see it in person.
