LTC Matthew Clementz was raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio and attended Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. LTC Clementz’s first assignment was as a Field Artillery Platoon Leader and later as a Fire Support Officer assigned to 3rd Battalion (Attack), 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). While stationed at Fort Campbell, LTC Clementz attended flight training at Fort Rucker, AL and then was reassigned to 3-101 (Eagle Attack) as an AH-64 pilot. There, he served as a Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, Charlie 3-101 Company Commander and Brigade Assistant Operations Officer.

Upon graduation from the Command and General Staff College, LTC Clementz was assigned to 4-2 ARB in Korea as Battalion Operations Officer. In 2013, he moved to Fort Carson, CO where he served as a Battalion Executive Officer and Brigade Operations Officer and Brigade Executive Officer of the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade. Following his assignment in Colorado, LTC Clementz served as the Deputy Aviation Trainer at The National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA. LTC Clementz then was assigned as the Professor of Military Science for the Army Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) Program at the University of Cincinnati. LTC Clementz's last assignment was as the Commander of 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, the 101st Airborne Division's only AH-64E attack helicopter Cavalry Squadron. 

LTC Clementz has deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and twice to Korea in support of INDPACOM. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (8 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (Numeral 2), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), and the Order of Saint Barbra (Field Artillery), the Order of Saint Michael (Aviation) and the Order of Saint George (Cavalry).

LTC Clementz also holds a Master of Science in Business from the University of Kansas.  He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Captains Career Course, Army Aviation Basic Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, AH-64D and AH-64E Qualification Courses, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Airborne School, Air Assault School, and the Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (High Risk) Course. LTC Clementz is married to Sharon Clementz, and they have two children, Katie and Ben.
