What do you love most about UD?

I love how supportive and involved the faculty and staff are at UD. If it wasn't for the genuine care from these individuals, I would not have had the opportunities I have. They really do acknowledge the hard work and dedication the students at UD put into their lives here and that makes a huge difference in terms of success and productivity.

What do you like most about your major?

The things that I am currently learning can already be applied to my current lifestyle and other people's to promote a healthy life and well being.

Favorite class at UD and why?

My favorite class at UD is African American History before 1806, because I was learning my own history. The curriculum in the schools I have attended barely scratched the surface of true Black history and the way its essence is often misunderstood. The class I took at UD was only an intro course, but the amount of information I learned was incredible. I have done my own research in this area of study. However, this course taught me more than I could have imagined. The structure of the class was nothing short of amazing. The lectures kept your attention from the get, and, as an 8 a.m. class, that's extremely important. The classes had weekly discussions along with short Q&A sessions following the lectures. These discussions always remained respectful and sensitive to the weight of the topics being discussed. The students all understood that, for many of the students in the class, this was their history. This classroom felt like a very safe space for specifically black students on campus to ask questions and comment on aspects that have shaped the way Black Americans are treated and understood in 2022.

What piece of your academic journey has you most prepared to begin a career after graduation?

A piece of my academic journey that has most prepared me to pursue a career after graduation would be the different organizations I have been a part of. I have found that being a part of many organizations with a wide range of ages has prepared me for understanding and communicating with many different types of people. I believe this is a very important trait to have no matter the career you plan to pursue.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in at UD?

  • Dance Team
  • Life Itself Dance
  • BATU (Black Action Through Unity)
  • MEC (Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center)
  • TA and front desk assistant, College of Arts and Sciences

Why did you choose UD?

I chose UD because I liked how personable the people on campus were. They really wanted to get to know me and their interest was genuine. The people would go out of their way to help in any kind of way. The way that UD is portrayed to potential students is extremely realistic where others universities are not. UD also provided me with an outstanding financial aid packet that would have been foolish to decline.

Is there anything else about your UD experience you think prospective students and their families should know?

I have spoken on several academic panels during presentations for newly admitted Discover Arts students and their families, so I can answer nearly any question about this program. I was also in the Discover Arts program for four semesters myself, and the class I TA is the "Intro to University" course students complete in their first semester at UD.
