What do you like most about your major?
The opportunity to work outdoors in natural settings while addressing some of today’s most pressing challenges pertaining to conservation.
What do you love most about UD?
I love that UD is genuinely committed to the success and happiness of its students by consistently upholding its promises and values.
Have you ever participated in faculty-mentored research? If so, what did you learn from that experience?
My experience in an Environmental Biology research lab has taught me that faculty want to support students in achieving their career and research goals through collaboration. Additionally, I have learned valuable skills in planning research projects, establishing ambitious goals and following through on my commitments. Working in a faculty-mentored research lab has not only inspired me, but also prepared me with the skills needed for a career in research after graduation.
Favorite class at UD and why?
My favorite class at UD has been Ecology because I enjoyed learning about the environment on a macroscale and the lab introduced me to an array of specialized disciplines within the broader field of ecology.
What piece of your academic journey has you most prepared to begin a career after graduation?
Research and internships have been instrumental in preparing me for a career in an environmental field after graduation. During the summer of 2023, I interned with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources which allowed me to work on real-world projects, as well as build relationships with employees to establish a professional network. Opportunities on UD’s campus have also proved to be monumental, especially working on academic research through research labs and fellowships. In addition to becoming equipped with the necessary skills for a successful career in environmental science, my research endeavors have allowed me to interact with professionals in the field and approach the discipline from a scholarly perspective. Also on campus, I am an active member of River Stewards, an organization that focuses on leadership development and sustainability-centered civic engagement. Because of River Stewards, I have been able to make a direct impact in the Dayton community through hands-on service projects.
What clubs/organizations are you involved in at UD?
- River Stewards
- Beta Beta Beta (honor society)
- CAS Ambassador
Why did you choose UD?
I chose to attend UD because I believed it would provide me with a quality education and bountiful opportunities, all while accommodating my needs as a commuter student.
