What do you like most about your major?
The English major is so unique from other majors. There is no set path, which is one of the things I like the most. You can pursue countless career options after college as an English major, and there are lots of clubs and programs on campus that can help you determine what path you want to pursue. Additionally, as an English major, my technical skills have improved significantly. This includes being able to read more comprehensively and write more mindfully, as well as how to be effective when writing.
What do you love most about UD?
There’s so much to love about UD. For one, the professors are absolutely amazing and are constantly more than willing to help you out. They genuinely care about your success. Even professors I’ve had outside the English department have been outstanding.
Favorite class at UD and why?
First year Core is my favorite class at UD. I am very passionate about the Core program. It teaches you amazing skills that I resonated with, and all the professors that are in the program are fantastic at teaching and helping guide you through it. Core not only helped me learn more about history, philosophy, religion and English, but it also taught me how to be a more well-rounded person. It has shaped me to be the diligent reader and writer that I am today.
What piece of your academic journey has you most prepared to begin a career after graduation?
This past summer, I had a writing internship with Dr. Mackay, who is an English Professor and Director of the Core Program. I aided her as she was finishing her book, and it was such an informative experience. I learned about research and all the layers of it, from the sources to the sequence of formatting your argument. Dr. Mackay was extremely helpful and kind. I am so grateful to have been able to help her. This experience has definitely propelled my academic journey, as I plan on pursuing graduate school after graduation. I will be doing research in my future, and now have much more of an idea of what that may look like.

Why did you choose UD?
Both of my older sisters attended UD. After visiting them, I fell in love with the campus and how inclusive everyone was. Especially when I visit in the fall, when all the leaves are turning. Campus was so beautiful and peaceful. UD immediately felt like home.
