March 11, 2020

Dear Students (and emergency contacts),

As you know throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, this has been a continuously evolving situation. Today was no exception. The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the COVID-19 outbreak to be a global pandemic this afternoon. This evening, President Trump (in a speech about America’s response to the coronavirus) announced travel restrictions from Europe to the United States (excluding the United Kingdom), which will go into effect at midnight on Friday. Our present understanding is that there are exemptions for Americans, but we do not have further details at this moment. While we imagine more information is forthcoming, we want you to be able to take action quickly, so we are reaching out now.

Given these changes, we are now requiring that all University of Dayton students who are currently studying in Europe return home to the United States. Our strong recommendation is that you try to get a flight that returns home to the U.S. by the end of day Friday.

After you book your flight, complete this google form so that we can track our travelers and ensure everyone arrived home safely. (Emergency contacts can complete this for you.)

We understand that you will have lots of questions about how this impacts your semester and will work with you in the coming days to address them. For now, we want to focus on you getting home quickly and safely.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to assist you.
