Information for Parents and Families

Your student is making very important decisions about their next destination. Let us help you help them.

Your input can significantly impact your student's career development, and Career Services is eager to help you and your student. Ways that you can assist your student include the following:

  • Encourage your student to take advantage of Career Services early in their college career. Far too many students fail to visit our office until late in the senior year. These students are at a competitive disadvantage in terms of preparation and competition in the job search or graduate school selection process.
  • Emphasize the importance of internships, co-ops and other career-related experiences. Students who engage in career-related experiences have more employment opportunities upon graduation.
  • If you are a UD alum you can join Flyer Connection. Flyer Connection is the University's online networking and mentoring platform for students and alumni. Flyer Connection allows students to ask advice and foster professional relationships with alumni through flash-mentoring. Within Flyer Connection, students and alumni can sign-up for the Alumni Mentoring Program. This program provides personalized one-on-one mentoring, for a longer period of time.
  • Encourage your organization to hire students as interns and full-time employees. Dayton parents and families know our students' potential better than anyone. Support the career development of students by encouraging your employer to recruit Flyers
