The first-year fall move-in process takes place rain or shine. However, if lightning is in the area, move-in will pause, and volunteers will move indoors until the storm passes. UD Public Safety will monitor the weather and advise our staff throughout the day to help ensure a safe move-in experience for your family. We appreciate your patience and understanding if storms cause delays during move-in.

Additional Fall Move-In Reminders

Before Arrival
  • Label every bag/box with your student's name, phone number and room number.
  • Select a move-in appointment on the MyHousing Portal by Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026. Students who do not select a time by that date will be assigned one automatically. Time slot selection will be available beginning July 7 on the MyHousing Portal.

Oversized Vehicles

Oversized vehicles may not be permitted in the normal unload zone with volunteer support and are therefore discouraged.

In the event that a student arrives with an oversized vehicle for move-in, they will be directed to a nearby lot for independent unloading. Please contact housing@udayton.edu, in advance of move-in day with questions, or to get more information pertaining to the proper unload zone nearest to  the student’s residence hall.

While Waiting in Line
  • All family members should remain in your vehicle until you reach the unloading zone in front of the building.
  • Students may exit the vehicle to check in at the residence hall lobby and receive their key, then return to the vehicle in the waiting area of the parking lot.
  • Staff will be available in all waiting lots to answer questions and guide you.
  • Be sure to log in to MyHousing Portal to access your digital hangtag when you join the traffic queue.

When it's Your Turn to Unload
  • UD volunteers — the "Blue Crew" — will unload your student’s belongings and deliver them to their room. Students and guests (aside from the driver) may go to the student’s room to begin unpacking.
  • The driver must remain with the vehicle at all times. After your vehicle is unloaded, it must be moved so the next vehicle can unload. You will be asked to park in the S1 Lot near Fitz Hall (corner of Brown St. and Stewart St.) or the U Lot (near the Marriott at the University of Dayton.)
  • Shuttles will be available all day to bring the driver back to your student’s residence hall.

Digital Pass
  • Each student will be issued a Digital Pass in their personalized Hub on the MyHousing Portal. This serves as directional communication to traffic guides to ensure you are located in the correct unloading zone for your assigned residence.
  • Be sure to log in to MyHousing Portal to access your digital hangtag when you join the traffic queue.

Directions to Marianist Hall

From the intersection of Brown St. and E. Stewart St.:

  • Continue on Brown St.
  • Turn Left on Irving Ave.
  • Turn Left at the UD Welcome Sign into parking lot.
  • Turn Left to Marianist Hall.
  • Drop off the student's items. The driver must remain with the vehicle at all times.

Where to park

  • Park in S1 Lot by Fitz Hall: Turn Right at stop sign (Stonemill Rd.), turn Right on Brown St. and Left into S1 Lot.

Directions to Marycrest Complex

From the intersection of Brown St. and E. Stewart St.:

  • Continue on Brown St.
  • Turn Left on Irving Ave.
  • Turn Left at the UD Welcome Sign into parking lot.
  • Continue Straight to Marycrest Complex.
  • Drop off the student's items. The driver must remain with the vehicle at all times.

Where to park

  • Park in S1 Lot by Fitz Hall: Turn Left on Stewart St., turn Left on Brown St. and Right into S1 Lot.

Directions to Stuart Complex

From the intersection of Brown St. and E. Stewart St.:

  • Continue on E. Stewart St.
  • Turn Right on Access Way
  • Continue on Access Way, past Marycrest Complex and Virginia W. Kettering Hall, to Stewart Complex.
  • Drop off the student's items. The driver must remain with the vehicle at all times.

Where to park

  • Park in S1 Lot by Fitz Hall: Turn Right on Irving Ave., turn Right on Brown St. and Left into S1 Lot.

Shuttle Bus Info

Once your student's belongings have been unloaded from your vehicle, you will be asked to park in the S1 Lot near Fitz Hall (corner of Brown St. and Stewart St.) or the U Lot (near the Marriott at the University of Dayton).

Shuttle buses will run continuously from 6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. to take you back to your student’s residence hall. The shuttle bus route has five stops:

  1. S1 Lot (near Fitz Hall).
  2. Behind Marycrest Complex (on Access Way).
  3. Behind Stuart Complex (on Access Way).
  4. At the intersection of Evanston Ave. and Kiefaber St. (in front of the RecPlex).
  5. U Lot (near the Marriott at the University of Dayton)

Will meal plans be active?
Yes, meal plans will be active upon the student's arrival to campus.

Will on-campus dining venues be open?
Yes, on-campus dining venues will be open.

Will the Bookstore be open?

UD Bookstore hours during Welcome Weekend:

  • Friday, Aug. 21: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 22: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 23: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Flyer Spirit hours during Welcome Weekend:

  • Friday, Aug. 21: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 22: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 23: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Are there residential meetings students should attend upon moving in?

Community meetings will be hosted by Resident Assistants (RAs) during Welcome Weekend in each first-year hall to outline residential living expectations. Community Meetings will be located on your floor.

It's also important that incoming students engage in a Community Living Agreement meeting, which is offered by each RA.

When will students receive their UD ID (FlyerCard)?

Students provision their digital FlyerCard during New Student Orientation. If the student didn't attend NSO or didn't get a chance to provision while they were on campus for NSO, directions are available on Porches.

Students should set up their digital FlyerCard before arriving on campus. They'll need it to access their assigned residence hall and other campus buildings, make purchases and use some campus services — all from their smartphone or Apple Watch.

Are elevators available to use in the residence halls?

To navigate traffic flow and maximize the elevators for hauling carts, we encourage everyone on the 3rd floor and below to use the stairs going up and down. For those on the 4th floor and higher, we encourage you to use the elevator going up, then take the stairs going down.

Anyone with accessibility issues will be permitted to use the elevator, but note that there may be a wait to use the elevator with the increased traffic.

Can family members help students arrange their room?

Yes, once you park your vehicle, you can take your time helping your student get organized and settled in their room.

Consider bringing tools to assist with assembling items purchased for your student's room.
