Bias and the Other-Race Effect: Challenging the Constraints of Our Own Categories
09:00 AM - 02:30 PM

Facilitators: Julio Quintero, Megan Woolf

Description: Humans are able to navigate the world thanks to their ability to categorize. This tendency has proven effective for the survival of our species, but in some occasions, when there is a need to see reality in a more nuanced way, it can lead to misunderstandings and even harm. Through real situations, this session investigates the reasons why we are prone to experience bias and shows the ways in which it can manifest in our lives. Participants will also learn about strategies to mitigate it.
