Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Marketing

From market research and product design to advertising and sales, marketing is the process of planning and executing the distribution of ideas, goods and services. In marketing, you will learn to identify, understand and satisfy the needs of consumers and organizations. Our curriculum teaches you to see the "big picture" of the overall marketing process while you learn about specialized marketing activities such as advertising, product development and sales.

All three of our majors embrace a theory-to-practice orientation that includes hands-on, required capstone courses involving projects with real organizations. Our department offers majors and minors in entrepreneurship, leadership and marketing. Majors in marketing can also earn an emphasis in sales management — a highly sought skill as almost two of every three marketing majors land their first jobs in a sales-related field.


Program Outcomes

Our curriculum links marketing to the entire range of business functions, preparing you to help businesses achieve their goals.

You will build a foundation in the field by taking Principles of Marketing. Next, you will take a six-credit-hour course that provides hands-on experience identifying, understanding and penetrating a target market. During the capstone marketing course, you will take an in-depth look at buyer behavior and market research as you design a marketing plan to deliver a product or service effectively and efficiently to the target market for a real organization.

In addition to core marketing classes, electives allow you to specialize in advertising, entrepreneurial marketing, international marketing, Internet marketing, promotion management or retail marketing. And, if you are interested in sales, you can earn an emphasis in sales management — offering a highly desirable set of skills.

The marketing program also coordinates or participates in several real-world competitions that are only available to marketing students. Our competitions offer world-class experiences along with prize money and transferable job skills. These include:

  • P&G Marketing Challenge 
  • National Collegiate Sales Competition
  • National Sales Challenge at the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales
  • ACRA Student Retail Analysis Competition
