Welcome First-Year Business Students
A big congratulations to our admitted business students - Class of 2028! We are so excited for you to take the next, exciting step to becoming a Flyer and to welcome you to the School of Business Administration (SBA)!
We are dedicated to helping you successfully navigate through the business school and plan for your future success while providing you with an experientially focused business education. It is our goal that students actively engage with their business curriculum and take their future into their own hands.
We know that this part might be overwhelming, which is why we’ve outlined some important things to consider and to prepare you to be a first-year business student.

- Complete the ALEKS Math Readiness Assessment - this will help you be placed in the best math to start your college career.
- Learn more about the Language Placement Exam - The SBA does not require foreign language courses; however, if you are interested in continuing your language education, learn more about placement exams.

During Orientation
Connect and Ask the Holistic Academic Advisors Questions. Orientation is going to be a fun and action-packed day where you are going to learn more about what it is really like to be a college student. Students will be meeting members of the Academic Advising team at 3:00 p.m.!
Here are some tips to make the most out of orientation!
- Come prepared with a list of questions
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions - we guarantee someone else has the same one!
- Be excited to meet and connect with some of your future business classmates
Post-Orientation
The countdown has officially begun when you move to campus. You’re almost here, let’s get you thinking about what your future holds!
- Become familiar with the Academic Calendar -this will help you and your family appropriately plan travel for breaks and holidays or prepare for fun weekends like Family Weekend - September 20-22, 2024.
- Start Planning out your Packing List: Here are some things you may want to bring with you. For business students, we highly encourage you to pack a business professional suit. If you don’t have one - that’s ok! There are special events that connect students to accessible clothing options.
- Explore Student Organizations - start thinking about what organizations you may want to get involved in! The SBA has over 25 business organizations, but there are hundreds of ways to get involved across campus. By getting involved in these extra-curricular activities, students gain leadership experience, enhance their professional skills, and have opportunities to meet business professionals both in formal and informal settings.
- Consider applying for your Passport - If you don’t have a Passport, you may want to get one if studying abroad is on your college bucket list. We have some exciting abroad programs for first-year students including Spring 2025 Amsterdam and Summer II (End of June-July) Rome.
