Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF One Walk)
Since its founding, JDRF has built a nationwide network of advocates who are dedicated to finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The Dayton JDRF One Walk is a charitable cause to which the Davis Center has long been dedicated. Members once again donated their time in 2015 to help make the walk a success. They helped set up and take down the event, ran different stations providing entertainment for families, and handed out water to the walkers/runners.

Dayton City School’s “Trunk or Treat”
The Davis Center once again participated in Dayton City School’s “Trunk or Treat” event for Halloween 2015. Trunk or Treat is an annual event at local elementary schools where the community comes together to trick-or-treat out of the trunks of cars in the school's parking lot. This event assures that children who may not be able to trick or treat in their neighborhoods due to safety or mobility issues have the opportunity to trick or treat in a safe and controlled environment. On Thursday, October 29, from 5-8 PM, members of the DCPM volunteered their time by passing out candy to children at Cleveland Elementary near campus. It was a blast for the volunteers and children alike!

High School Portfolio Competition
During the 2014-15 academic year, the Outreach Team revived the Center's portfolio competition among Dayton area high schools. The year's competition engaged 119 students from six classes at four local high schools who worked in teams to try to outperform one another using their stock selection and portfolio management prowess. The program includes instructional classroom visits by DCPM members that focus on investment principles such as security analysis, sector allocation, and risk. The top performing teams from each participating school advanced to a presentation round held at UD on December 8. A combination of the portfolio performance and presentation scores determined the overall winner, who was announced following the portfolio presentations and pizza! Congratulations to the Dadanomics team from Centerville High School, our Fall 2016 champions!

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Starting in mid-March 2016, Davis Center students will conduct a six-week seminar for UD's Lifelong Learning Institute that will mimic the program they put together for the High School Portfolio Competition. Once again, instructional presentations by DCPMers pertaining to the stock market and investment principles will be held in conjunction with a simulated portfolio competition among seminar participants. The Center is excited about this opportunity, and anxious to develop a relationship with this new audience.

Christmas on Campus
Each year, UD celebrates Christmas on Campus (COC), a hallmark event symbolizing the Catholic and Marianist tradition of the university. As described by the COC website, the tradition of celebrating Christmas and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception dates back to 1964 when a group of students gathered and decided they wanted to celebrate Christmas before they left for the holidays and so COC was born. Since then, it has evolved into the night of wonder that students know today. Each year members participate in the festivities by running a carnival themed booth in the gymnasium for children to enjoy. This is one of the members' favorite traditions as it is always a magical night.

Buffett Trip
In 2011, members of The Davis Center for Portfolio Management extended an invitation to CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Mr. Warren Buffett to speak at the University of Dayton’s RISE Forum. Unable to arrange his schedule to coincide with the conference, students from the Davis Center were graciously invited to Omaha for a tour of Berkshire Hathaway companies instead. The students were overwhelmed with excitement the entire trip, the climax of which was a meet-and-greet with "The Oracle of Omaha" himself! Mr. Buffett graciously fielded questions from the students, and then treated them all to lunch following the session. The trip was a success, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of the Davis Center members who participated.
