Davis Center for Portfolio Management

Davis Center Mission Statement

The Davis Center for Portfolio Management is a student-directed organization designed to provide the quality market and equity research needed to effectively manage the University's student-run undergraduate portfolio. By integrating academic theory with real-world investment skills, we strive to create an experiential learning environment that fosters both personal and professional development, provides opportunities to establish a comprehensive knowledge of the overall financial industry, and ultimately produces well-rounded individuals equipped with the tools to be successful in today's competitive society.

About the Davis Center

The Davis Center as a physical structure is an investment technology classroom at the University of Dayton equipped with industry-leading financial analysis software including Bloomberg and Morningstar Direct. The Davis Center is both an introduction to real-world portfolio management and a leadership development program for 40-60 undergraduate students from all parts of the University. It consists of a student-run management structure that divides its volunteer staff into teams that hold financial software training sessions for students, introduce local high schools to industry research, and participate in community service events. The staff is a resource to the University and the student body, providing financial education and opportunities to explore many areas of finance. Flyer Investments, a capstone student-managed portfolio seminar, manages $30 million of the University's endowment invested in equity markets. Students are empowered through the software and other resources available in the Davis Center to gain hands-on experience as portfolio managers, reporting semi-annually to the Davis Center Advisory Board. In managing this fund, students invest across sectors and industries in a well-diversified portfolio, utilizing in-depth analysis of the economy as well as equities themselves. According to the Center's alumni network, which now spans over 200 professionals, this program lays a solid foundation for careers in the investment industry.
