HSI Student Leaders take role in revamping website

As the University of Dayton's Hanley Sustainability institute worked on updating its website, the student leaders were given the unique opportunity to be involved with the process of the makeover. At their weekly meetings, the group collaborated over white boards working on how their team page would be presented.

The student directors of communication and outreach had each team work on blurbs for their ongoing programs and any other ways to engage. With a fresh batch of student leaders, this helped them to get snippets of what every team does to see which teams piqued their interest.

That being said, the experience was also impactful for more veteran leaders, including Emma Allington, a senior student leader on the education team and student director for peer-to-peer engagement.

She spoke about how she heard more about programs like the Food Recovery Network which, like most programs, she encourages the SAPlings to get involved with. It gave her the opportunity to learn more in depth about what the volunteers do to help inform people better about it.

The meeting was also a chance to learn about one another through the personal bios.

“I enjoyed reading all the student leader bios," Allington said. "Everyone is so involved outside of HSI, and it made me realize how special the leaders program is for bringing us all together into one space.”

Having the student leaders be involved with the website update was a great experience that helped put more student voice into how the program is presented and helped everyone develop a better understanding of each other's programs. We are all thankful for the opportunity and very excited for the new website.
