An Easter Message of Joy and Hope

By Eric F. Spina

Dear University of Dayton Family,

Karen and I wish you and your families the joy and hope of Easter.

For our brothers and sisters of differing faith traditions, we extend peace and happiness during this Holy season. We are all God’s children.

For Christians, the Resurrection of Jesus is a profound reminder of God’s love and brings a timeless message of hope.

Glimpses of hope abound to remind us of that love — in the vaccines that will bring us safely out of the pandemic to our graduating seniors who will once again celebrate their commencement in person. Easter celebrates the passage from death to life, and I find it more meaningful than ever this year.

On Holy Thursday, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and encouraged them to do the same for each other. I’ve seen this same selflessness in action on our campus during the pandemic as faculty, staff, and students have gone above and beyond to serve others with love and compassion.

May the Easter message of hope live in each of us — today and always.

Wishing you God’s grace,

Eric F. Spina
