Miryam Award Winners

The Miryam Award Committee is pleased to present Dr. Malcolm Daniels and the UD Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers with the 2015 Miryam Award. Both recipients exemplify the spirit of the Miryam Award by consistently improving the climate for women on campus through their everyday work.

Dr. Daniels is an associate professor in the School of Engineering and the interim director of the ETHOS program. Malcolm has used his leadership positions in the School of Engineering to allow every person’s voice to be heard. He has repeatedly advocated for all perspectives, in a very male-dominated field, making it a comfortable and safe place for all. He has been instrumental in supporting his colleagues and students in writing for grants and bringing programs to UD which help encourage, retain, and recognize women in the fields of engineering.

The Society of Women Engineers at UD is designed to “provide an encouraging and supportive environment where the members can explore and develop all of their abilities,” as mentioned in the nomination. UD’s chapter seems to go above and beyond their charge and does an exceptional job as a student organization in serving the needs of women in engineering.

To honor Malcolm and SWE, along with others who were nominated for the Miryam Award this year, everyone is invited to the Prayer Service on Tuesday, March 25 at 4:30pm in the Chaminade Chapel. The award will be presented at the reception following the prayer service in Kennedy Union’s Torch Lounge. To RSVP for reception only, call 229-2524
