Don't Just Shake It Off

By Mike Bennett

Despite what Taylor Swift might say, our Lenten journey is hardly something to just “shake off.” Once Easter comes I often, regretfully, look back at Lent and recognize my failure to utilize that time to grow closer to God. Challenges like these demonstrate our need to process and journey with others throughout periods of life. Take the disciples’ journey that brought them together at the Last Supper, at Pentecost, and at other numerous times in their faith-filled lives. They weren’t perfect but they sought time together to gather for accountability, for healing, for rejuvenation, for worship, and to share life and their encounters with Christ with one another. That time fueled them to put their faith into action and to share Christ with the world.

Very soon our Lenten journeys will be upon us and we’ll be challenged to examine how we can walk more closely with Jesus and be His disciples today. Why not share this journey of Lent with others through an experience of a small faith community?

Lenten Discipleship Groups are student led small faith communities that will meet once a week for an hour and a half throughout Lent. Groups will begin the week of February 15 and conclude the week of April 5. Students can sign up online by providing us with their contact information and selecting which group times they would be available here. If you have questions contact Mike Bennett.
