Our Life in God

By Fr. Ted Cassidy, SM

The end of good effort is victory. We may not see the victory coming, but if we present all we are to God, there will be success. Today we celebrate the feast of the Presentation in the Temple. It is the celebration of giving ourselves to God.

Fundamentally, our spirituality and prayer is relationship with God. We are beloved. We live in relationship with Christ. We all have a true self, which is absorbed in the love of God. We are the beloved of God. This is the foundation on which builds all efforts to deal with insecurities and authentic self-confidence against all evil. Whether we make mistakes or act rightly, God’s love is constantly present in us. Prayer is the means by which we find this true relationship of a God who loves us.

As a University, we are engaged in learning, developing the common good, growing to appreciate each other and all the good realities that we study.

Consider how this deeper level of living in God is recognizing that love is the basis of it all. Students strive to relate well with friends and to learn and find purpose in life. Underneath all this effort is the constant and precious union with God, the secure place where we discover joy.

Rejoice in what we are learning, rejoice in how we work together like a good basketball team. Rejoice in the friendships we have developed. All the evil around us has no ultimate power over us. In Christ, we find true life. This is the profound depth of authentic reality. This is our life in God.

On this feast, we present ourselves to God.  At a University, we engage in demanding work. God who is the constant present one secures the victory.
